my first portraits ~ 2013

Updated: Sep 26

It took me many years of practicing photography to finally muster enough courage to photograph people. I had loved photographing nature for many reasons (here are some of them), but somehow photographing people had always felt to me like I was invading their personal space, and from my own experience I knew how uncomfortable it felt when it was ever done to me, so I had avoided doing it to others as much as I could. But then, at some point, my creativity and my love for capturing moments I found meaningful and/or captivating seemed to overpowered my fear of butting in with my lens into to people's personal space and I decided to give "shooting" people a go:).

As I became more and more comfortable with taking photos of people, I fell in love with it even more than I'd thought I would have. Being so aware and sensitive about my own personal space, I have always done my very best to feel the subjects I photograph and get a sense of how welcome (or unwelcome) I am to come closer and capture a glimpse of a moment in their life. Since then I have covered many events (some of them you can see here) and have been privileged enough to be invited to capture moments of many wonderful people's lives, some of them I've shared over here.

Here, however, you will find a selection of some of my very first attempts at photographing people, from back in 2013.
